Cell cortex structure and dynamics before, during, and after adhesion

Principal Investigators: 

The cellular cortex is crucial for a variety of cellular functions such as shaping the cell or transmitting forces during migration. We will characterize and compare the structure and dynamics of the cellular cortex of suspended versus adherent cells and its impact on migration. Well defined adhesion (density, total amount and activation of adhesion molecules) will be achieved in collaboration with B6. The turnover and structure of the cytoskeleton (actin, myosin IIa and microtubuli) will be investigated by fluorescent microscopy and laser manipulation techniques. The cytoskeletal dynamics will be modeled in collaboration with A1 (actin) and A8 (microtubuli).
