Staphylococcus aureus, a dreaded hospital germ, can cause serious infections. A remarkable property of this bacterium is its exceptional adhesion. A team from physics (Karin Jacobs B1/B2 and Ludger Santen A8/B1) and medicine (Markus Bischoff B2) at Saarland University - was now able to find out that the germ adheres better to some parts of the shell than to others. Their now published study could be the starting point for more effective bacteria-repellent surfaces.
