The team of scientist in the SFB 1027 led by Professor of Molecular Biology Robert Ernst, PI of project C10,  is researching the role of the cell membrane in the development of chronic diseases. In the project “MemDense - Cellular control of membrane protein crowding”, which was approved on December 10, 2019 and funded with around 2 million euros by the European Research Council (ERC), the researchers are addressing the question of how an imbalance of membrane fats (lipids) and Proteins in cell membranes lead to cell stress and thus to diseases - and how this cell stress can be reduced again. To do this, the mechanisms within a cell that lead to a cell recognizing and controlling the balance of substances must be understood. The researchers suspect that the cell membrane has so far been underestimated when it comes to the development of diseases. The project starts on April 1, 2020. Congratulations Robert!
