Biofilms on polymeric dental materials

Polymers are increasingly employed in restorative dentistry. One of the disadvantages of the early polymeric materials was an increased accumulation of biofilms on their surface. However, modern materials have been significantly improved and feature several options to further influence bioadhesion by modification of their surface properties. The aim of this lecture is to outline the scientific evidence available regarding bioadhesion on dental polymeric materials and to identify options for a continuous improvement of these materials.
